Karen Porter - Team Manager

I was born in London Ontario and lived there until my early teens when my family moved to St. Catherines Ontario. After graduation from Grantham High school, I entered the College of Pharmacy at the University of Toronto. Five years there and I began my career in pharmacy, remaining in Toronto. I preferred hospital pharmacy and worked at Princess Margaret and Scarborough General Hospitals.  It was during this time that I met my husband, Bill, and we were married about 2 years after meeting.

As Bill worked for an oil company, we began moving with his job - Ottawa, Newfoundland, Calgary, London England, Ottawa, Westport Connecticut, The Hague Netherlands, Toronto, Houston Texas, and Washington DC. During this time, I returned to school and obtained my masters in psychology. I worked in that field from then until I retired.

While we were in Washington, I was introduced by a work colleague to Sweet Adelines and joined the Vienna Falls Chorus in 1998. I sang with them and went to my first International Competition with them.

In 2004, we moved back to Canada to Collingwood. I waited seven years to join another chorus, as I knew that it was a commitment of time and energy. So in 2011, I began with Harmony North and became a full member in 2012.

Harmony North is a small group of women who love to sing and work together to make that happen. The group makes everyone feel welcome and I enjoy being with them and singing with them. It didn't take me long to discover that individual voices and helping out means a lot more in a chorus of under 30 than it did in a chorus of over 100 voices. It is a pleasure for me to work and sing with this group of women.
